28. learned or learnt?
Regular verbs in British English end in -ed in the past tense e.g. answered. However, a select group of verbs has two past participles (verb forms): a regular one (-ed) and an irregular one (-t):
burned/burnt; dreamed/dreamt; leaned/leant; learned/learnt; smelled/smelt;spelled/spelt;spilled/spilt;spoiled/spoilt.
Both forms are correct, but the -t ending is more usual.
